Root Canal
Centra Dental
A root canal is a serious dental procedure because it means a tooth is being saved. A tooth that has suffered a lot of tooth decay or injury is usually the type of tooth to receive this oral surgery procedure.
When the inside of the tooth is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue dies. If this tissue is not removed, the tooth can become infected and can cause a great deal of pain. At Centra Dental, we provide root canal treatment to save the natural tooth in order to allow our patients to continue with a full set of teeth.
It is always our primary goal to ensure our patients keep their original teeth for as long as possible. Yes, we do dental implants, but we understand the importance of keeping original teeth, and we also encourage our patients to take care of their teeth as best they can to keep from having to have oral surgeries, such as a root canal or a dental implant.
What Happens During a Root Canal?
During root canal treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp will be removed and the inside of the tooth will be carefully cleaned and disinfected. The pulp will then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha, and afterwards, the tooth will be restored with a crown or filling for protection. After restoration, the tooth will continue to function like any other tooth.
We understand some of the anxieties often associated with having a root canal procedure done. The team here at Centra Dental will help ensure that a comfortable and stress-free experience during and after your appointment. We also provide sedation to all of our patients to help them relax. The affected area is also completely numbed so that the patient doesn’t feel any pain during the procedure.
