Ozone Therapy
Ozone therapy is an advanced, scientifically proven treatment used in many holistic dental practices today. It is a natural and non-invasive procedure for people who need bacteria removal caused by a range of dental issues, such as:
- Tooth cavities
- Periodontal disease
- Jaw pain
- Root canal infections
- Other infections
Our patients come to us for ozone dental treatment because it is painless and effective against a wide range of toxins. Learn more about how our top-rated Houston dentists at Centra Dental can help you achieve healthier smiles through ozone therapy.
The Misconceptions Against Ozone
When one hears the word ozone, the first thing they think of is the layer in our atmosphere associated with pollution and UV rays. So it’s no wonder why some people may think it’s harmful when used in a medical setting.
Ozone isn’t pollution but rather an indicator that there’s pollution around us. The burning of fossil fuels produces hydrocarbons, which are the damaging chemicals that put our planet at risk. When the sun’s rays hit these hydrocarbons, ozone becomes one of the byproducts.
In reality, when ozone is used properly by trained and qualified dental professionals like our Houston dentist, it is extremely safe—one of the safest therapies in the world. Historically, ozone therapy in dentistry has been practiced since the 1930s. It was even widely used during WWI to treat soldiers’ infections. Several medical societies across the globe, including ones in Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and France, continue to study ozone and its benefits in modern dentistry.
What Dental Diseases Can Ozone Therapy Treat?
Centra Dental is qualified to administer ozone therapy to prevent more complicated and expensive procedures. We believe in treating the problem while it’s still in the early stages, which is what ozone therapy can do. It also doesn’t require recovery time, so you can go home immediately. Some of the health benefits of ozone dental services include:
- Preventing cavities and remineralizing the enamel
- Treating periodontal or gum disease
- Promoting the healing of colds and canker sores
- Removing precancerous lesions in the mouth
- Removing infections during a root canal

We’re experienced in detecting conditions that can be effectively addressed with ozone therapy. As a painless, non-invasive procedure, ozone therapy can be the healthiest and most affordable option for you. Managing tooth decay and getting rid of infection-causing bacteria is made possible in a convenient way at our Houston dentist office.
The Remarkable Technology of Ozone Therapy at Our South Houston Dentist Office
Centra Dental uses an oxygen tank or oxygen concentrator to create ozone molecules in concentrations of approximately 10 mg/ul to 60 mg/ul. Anything lower or higher than that range is not recommended for dental use. Our South Houston dentist then uses a special dental handpiece fitted with a suction cup. The suction cup seals onto the tooth, and ozone begins to work by eradicating bacteria and remineralizing the teeth.
How Ozone Therapy Works in Dentistry
Ozone starts to work immediately after it breaks off into a single molecule and is released into the mouth. It attaches itself to the cell walls of bacteria, virus, fungi, molds, parasites, yeasts, chemicals, and other harmful substances. Ozone neutralizes these toxins by turning them into dead debris that will be eliminated by the body naturally. Healthy cells will not be affected. In order for the therapy to be effective, we recommend administering ozone in low doses over a longer period of time.
